The town of Jumla is 360 kilometres flight distance from Kathmandu the capital of Nepal. It lies in the north west of the country at an altitude of around 2500 metres. Jumla's township is home to around 10,000 people and is without infrastructure or sanitation. Surrounded by steep hills Mt. Kanjirowa at a height of 6883 metres is the backdrop to the town. The river Tila flows through the valley in which Jumla sits and land either side of the river is heavily cultivated.

The Kailash Bodhi School is situated on the outskirts of the town near the Jumla airport.
